In 2007, a move from Europe brought the Grimm family to California wine country. The early years were spent learning, tasting, and seeking out producers whose philosophy matched their own. When they discovered Happy Canyon, a sun-drenched corridor at the eastern edge of the Santa Ynez Valley, they knew they'd found their place.

The land on Kentucky Road was bare when they purchased it in 2010. No vines, no infrastructure. Just a blank canvas and a decision. They spent a few years camping in an RV, and getting to know the land before starting to plan. By 2012, the first vines were in the ground. By 2014, Grimm's Bluff had its first harvest of Sauvignon Blanc.

What followed took a decade and the right people. Biodynamic consultant Philippe Coderey shaped the farming philosophy. Viticulturist Garrett Gamanche built and ran the program in the field. Winemaker Ernst Storm brought a simple, unwavering conviction: get out of the vineyard's way and let the fruit speak for itself.

Today, four Bordeaux varietals grow on land that has never seen a synthetic input. The rows you walk, the wines you taste, the view from the bluff: all of it traces back to that original decision, made on a bare hilltop in Happy Canyon and honored every year since.
